Much obliged

 

‘You know, we can tell each other

about the things we learn at school.

I’ll come every night, do you think that’s nice,

ore is it weird?’ ‘Not at all,’ Rose says,

‘I’d really like that. I’m much obliged.’

 

That’s what she sometimes hears her mama say

when she’s talking to someone on the telephone.

It sounds nice and interesting, although

she doesn’t know the meaning of the word.

But saying it makes her feel grown up and wise.
